Studies of Negative Field Ion Microscopy with Tetracyanoethylene
نویسندگان
چکیده
Negative ion images generated by tetracyanoethylene (TCNE) under inverted field conditions in a field ion microscope have been investigated in more detail. The experiments confirm previous findings / I / and reveal further unique ionization phenomena such as the discontinuous development of ring structures in the ion image, the oscillation of rings in size and switching between different ion emitting surface structures. The observation of these phenomena critically depends on maintaining a tip temperature lower than the ambient gas temperature. The phenomena are attributed to the formation of an electrically conducting polymer layer of TCNE and to an elastic response of the layer surface to the field stress. Thus field enhancing and ion emitting protrusions are formed.

Strongly reshaped organic-metal interfaces: tetracyanoethylene on Cu(100).
The interaction of the strong electron-acceptor tetracyanoethylene with the Cu(100) surface is studied with scanning tunneling microscopy experiments and first-principles density functional theory calculations. We compare two different adsorption models with the experimental results and show that the molecular self-assembly is caused by a strong structural modification of the Cu(100) surface ra...
متن کاملAdsorption site determination of a molecular monolayer via inelastic tunneling.
We have combined scanning tunneling microscopy with inelastic electron tunneling spectroscopy (IETS) and density functional theory (DFT) to study a tetracyanoethylene monolayer on Ag(100). Images show that the molecules arrange in locally ordered patterns with three nonequivalent, but undeterminable, adsorption sites. While scanning tunneling spectroscopy only shows subtle variations of the loc...
متن کاملVoltage increase of aqueous lithium-ion batteries by Li-ion conducting Li1.5Al0.5Ge1.5(PO4)3 glass-ceramic
In this research, a lithium ion conducting lithium aluminum germanium phosphate (LAGP) glass-ceramic with a formula of Li1.5Al0.5Ge1.5(PO4)3 was synthesized by melt-quenching method and subsequent crystallization at 850 °C for 8 h. The prepared glass-ceramic was characterized using X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). The XRD patterns exhib...

This study was conducted to investigate organoclay prepared using montmorillonite clay with zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles and a long-chain organic surfactant hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide for the removal of nitrate ion from aqueous solutions. Adsorbents were evaluated by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FT-IR),...
متن کاملElectrochemical properties of iron oxide nanoparticles as an anode for Li-ion batteries
The synthesis of iron oxide nano-particles by direct thermal decomposition was studied. Simultaneous thermal analysis and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy results confirmed the formation of iron-urea complex, and disclosed iron oxide formation mechanism. Calcination of the iron-urea complex at 200°C and 250°C for 2 hrs. resulted in the formation of maghemite along with hematite as a seco...
